I was 16 when I heard this live. Decades later, I'm pressing play again. πŸ“Όβš‘ Grateful Dead – "Morning Dew" – Madison Square Garden, New York City – September 18, 1987. Played back on a cassette tape that's older than most of the people streaming the Dead today. I was at this show a little more than a month after my 16th birthday. This cassette holds more than a live recording β€” it brings me back to a night I was actually standing in that building. The video is simple: I press play on my Sony dual cassette deck and let the camera watch the reels turn while the music plays. No remaster, no streaming, no algorithm. The hiss is part of it. The slight wobble is part of it. That's what live music sounded like when you carried it home in your pocket. A little analog time travel. For my fellow Gen X music lovers and Deadheads, this is a rewind to concert tapes, handwritten J-cards, pencils in the spools, and music collections that lived in shoeboxes. When sharing a favorite show meant handing someone a tape. If you weren't there β€” this is what it felt like. There's something about loading a cassette, hearing that click, and watching the reels turn. Especially when the music connects to your own story. Pull up a chair. Let the reels turn. 🎸 Grateful Dead β€” Morning Dew πŸ“ Madison Square Garden, New York City πŸ“… 9/18/1987 πŸ“Ό 35+ year old cassette, played on a Sony dual cassette deck Were you at this show? What concert do you wish you could go back and experience again? Tell me in the comments β€” and let me know if you still have your old tapes.
